In which Jessica rants about respect and lack thereof

This is the second time I'm going to rant about this, because it's legitimately upsetting me.

If I give you respect, I expect that in return.

Is that weird? Because I figured that was how everyone operated in life. So, why am I finding out that more and more people that I know or have to deal with aren't reciprocating respect? Am I not worthy of being respected? Because I'm easy going, do I just automatically get taken for granted? Because I'm a student, does that mean I'm below you as a person?

How about if I just start disrespecting everyone by saying what I really think and feel? Can I demand respect once I start doing that and will I actually get any from doing that?

Apparently it must work, because I've had to deal with many teachers who operate this way.

I am so sick and tired of teachers demanding respect when they won't even respect me as a person, let alone a student who is trying to get a decent education, so I won't kill anybody in a hospital setting.

I'm sorry. Where was I disrespecting you to get such a smarmy e-mail, saying "I would have thought that you had ________ already?"

No. Not all of us have laptops we can carry into class to take notes off of and not all of us are seers who have the foresight of thinking, "Hm. The exam is on Monday. I bet the teacher will take down all the powerpoints on Friday just to fuck with us."

I've attended every single class and sat in the absolute front row - what more does this woman want? I take notes from her lecture and then go home and compare them to the powerpoints so I know what to focus on, rather than wasting more computer paper and ink by printing for her class.

I'm sorry I don't save powerpoints to my computer, because I've never had a teacher decide to remove powerpoints THE WEEKEND BEFORE A FINAL.

Just what the fuck.

Do not bitch about the "lack of respect" given to you, when you act like a shitty human being to someone who just asked a question, with no hints of anger, with correct titles for you, correct grammar, and even ended the message with a thank you.

I'm so sick of it. This teacher is so lucky her "teacher evaluation" forms are already sent in, because if they weren't, I'd give her hell to pay with the comments I'd leave.

I can understand being unprofessional if someone is unprofessional to you first, but there's no excuse for this behavior when I did nothing to deserve it.

Dear FGCU Nursing Program

It has come to my attention that your websites you would like me to upload my medical documents onto is flawed. Perhaps you are aware and this whole process is just to see who really wants to be in the program to begin with. If you aren't aware, sit down and listen to this.

You tell me that you want a vaccination of varicella or positive titer results from a doctor or from a lab report. I HAD THE CHICKEN POX WHEN I WAS BUT AN INFANT. There are NO medical reports of a problem my parents forced me to have! Am I really expected to go to some doctor, just because me and my parents word isn't enough?

Then I send you information on my Hepatitis B vaccinations. If you read the document I sent you correctly, all the information you would need to know about ANYTHING is on there. I don't think you read it, because for some unknown reason, you rejected it "because it doesn't have information about my Hep B vaccinations on there." I'm sorry, since when was a state of Florida certificate of immunization not enough proof of my Hep B vaccinations? Remind me when I have kids to take pictures of them getting their shots, because something verified by the state isn't enough proof for these people.

Backtracking, you know on that state certified form, it also says I had positive results of chicken pox, because ya know, I had it. Just saying. Perhaps you should hire people who can read or think intellectually before you decide to fuck me sideways.

What is really quaint about all of this is that for some reason I have to jump through hoops over the internet, rather than turning in all of this paperwork for you guys to figure out. I took all those papers that YOU specifically sent me and I've been filling them out. I go to upload them onto your 20 different websites and for some reason, you decide to reject them. That's cool.

Let's not forget that I'm the one that's spending copious amounts of cash to attend this university and for this program in particular, so maybe you should be trying to make this "registering" process a little bit easy on me. So far, it's been like ramming needles in my eyes. I understand it's tedious work for you to sit down and enter 60 people's information into your database, but I'd appreciate a little bit of sympathy because it's not like I have full access to a scanner so I can upload these documents. Not everyone is mega rich and that's kinda why I'm going to college in the first place, so if you could just calm your tits about my "incorrect documentation" that'd be great.

Sincerely,
a Fall 2011 Nursing student who just wants to enjoy her last carefree summer in peace before she signs her soul away to Hippocrates.

A post in which Jessica rants... again

So on Dr. Oz the other day, probably some ill-forgotten Wednesday or I'm actually talking about yesterday and I refuse to acknowledge that fact, he was reveling 6 secrets that husbands keep from their wives. This is obviously something that women question about and something that I was curious about as well.

While some of the secrets were no brainers, such as "They think they are smarter than their wives" and "They wish their wives made more money," one of the secrets really bothered me. It was also the very first secret revealed as well and apparently they asked men who these secrets apply to to hold the signs.

First secret was the fact that men fantasize about other women while having sex. When this was revealed, the husband openly admitted in front of his wife that he does this and the wife said they had discussed this before in the past and that she fantasizes about other men as well. Cue Jessica's rant to come into play!!

How is this okay? Call me old fashioned, but I can't comprehend this "secret." If both men and women are fantasizing about other people while they are married, what's the point of marriage? Another one of the secrets was the fact that men masturbate in secret. That's semi-reasonable at least. When you're 40 or so, I can imagine you aren't going at it like rabbits anymore and instead it might be a one day a week event. However, the fantasizing thing is something I can't get passed.

One of the statements made after that secret was revealed was that "men and women are not created for monogamous relationships." If this was the case, why did those relationships even start? Why don't we just all have open relationships where we can do whoever we want with no stigma attached to it? Oh, yeah, that's right. Because it's a bunch of crock. Another statement was that "men have a more powerful sex drive due to the billions of sperm being produced daily and they need a release. Men are desirous of other women but won't act on it, so they use having sex with their wives while imagining their wives' sister as a means to cope." O rly. I'm sorry but if my husband was having issues with wanting to bang my sister, I would not want to have sexual relations with him. Ever. Chances are I wouldn't even be married to him.

I don't think feelings of "true love" gives the husbands in that instance a free pass. "Oh, you wish you could have sex with my sister? Why don't you take all of your things and move out too?" I'd probably be the wife from Hell, but I really don't think I could handle that or even look at it as "natural." I don't even care if they wouldn't act on their desires in actuality, I'd feel like some sort of floozy if I was just satisfying my husband's inner desire to bang whatever female he has sexual feelings towards. Seriously. What the hell is the world coming to when fantasizing about someone else is considered healthy and normal and not a sign of warning?

Maybe I'm weird or strange, but it's really unsettling. I don't get the point of marriage anymore, I guess. I just don't understand why people decide to tie the knot if the knot doesn't mean anything except a wedding band and some flimsy promise than is getting broken thousands of times a year. It's disgusting to me.

Maybe I'm also bizarre for not having fantasies about male celebrities. I've never imagined doing anything with Johnny Depp, even though I will admit to finding him attractive. It's just weird. I don't get the point of fantasizing about someone I could never hope to have - maybe that's the appeal? I'm not quite sure.

Dr. Oz definitely instilled in me the incentive to get married.

Oh, I love a good rant ♥

2408535634_56b58f0c94_o

Marriage scares the crap out of me, and not for the reasons a person might expect.

I've never experienced a tricky divorce; my parents are still together, and yeah, they fight and bicker sometimes, but they still love each other (at least from what I can tell). I don't have commitment issues - once I pick someone, I pick someone and I don't stray from that, especially if it's serious and means a lot to me. I'm not scared of having kids or dealing with the thought of pregnancy that would be down the road after the marriage. I'm slightly scared of the whole financial aspect of it all, but that's kinda to be expected, just like my fear of wondering if I would make a good parent/wife for anyone.

But what scares me the most about the wedding is the bachelor party.

Yes, I am one of those women who fear and loathe the idea of the bachelor party. Surprise!!

It scares me more than anything else about marriage, and it occurs before I'd even be married. I know it's none of the wife's business to know what occurs at the bachelor party. Ya know, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas, and all that other crap so guys won't have to worry about their soon-to-be wives finding out about the strippers and the lap dances. Yeah, that party.

A lot of guys hide behind the rouse of, "well, I had no choice! *Insert best man's name* got the girls to come over and they made me get a lap dance!" And I call bullshit and shenanigans and bologna to that whole entire statement. Let's think about this: a party full of guys and strippers and you claim to have been forced to get a lap dance? "Well, he paid for it, it would be rude to say no!" So it's better to take a lap dance for the team, than to give your fiance the peace of mind. I mean, it's not like she trusts you or anything like that. "Well, it didn't mean anything! I'm never gonna see her again anyway!" If it 'didn't mean anything to you' then why go along with it in the first place? Oh yeah, because all guys are perverted pigs who when seeing a half naked bimbo shaking in front of them, just can't wait to sink their teeth into that. Because all guys have no self control and have the brain capacity of a dog, who doesn't know right or wrong, and will continue to pee on the floor because it can't fathom having a decent thought process.

It's the fact that guys will never say no to something like that because their anatomy and genetics just tell them to hump everything - I would love to meet the guy who could or would say no in that sort of situation, because I see a great future in that prospect, or they're a fabulous liar. I thought guys were supposed to be these macho men who don't cave under peer pressure, but it sure seems possible when women and their guys friends are involved.

Me, bitter? Maybe. Call me a shrew or a vengeful typical woman, but if my fiance had some crazy ass bachelor party, I'd wanna have a crazy bachelorette party, even if that's really not what I would want. To be honest, if I had a bachelorette party, it would just be me and my closest girl friends (since apparently only girls can go to those - typical men to say women can't have male strippers at their parties, but female strippers at theirs is completely okay - double standard alert!) sitting at one of their apartments or houses just watching movies or playing trivia games. If any of them even thought of bringing a male stripper there, I would leave or tell them to leave, because I'm not interested in any of that. I don't want some guy, a random guy, dancing around me or whatever it is that those people do at those sorts of events. I'd kinda be insulted at whoever paid for that, because it's like they don't even know me at all. I'm sure some women would enjoy that at their bachelorette party, but I wouldn't - that's not who I am. I'd much rather have fun playing video games at my party than anything sexual like a male dancer (wtf are they even called anyway?).

Yes, I'm passionate about silly futuristic things like bachelor parties, but I can't seem to get excited about summer school, which I'm currently in. But that's just who I am =)

End rant.

"You've got to love what's lovable and hate what's hate-able. It takes brains to see the difference." (Robert Frost)

*edit* However, when it comes to the whole bachelor party thing, if a guy is honest about what he did and doesn't make bullshit excuses for it, like I listed above, and he openly admits he wanted to go through with it, then that's a whole different situation. Honesty is much more preferred than bullshit, even if it really really hurts. But I'm still gonna be vindictive, so, I guess it's lose-lose. =P

I seem to have a lot of pet peeves

I wish I kept track of how many of these blogs are me ranting about something that I dislike about people. I think when it comes right down to it, I really don't like people that much =P Hi, I'm Jessica and I want to be your nurse one day =]

Anyway.

My pet peeve for today is when people fall back on their disorders.

Let me reiterate.

I understand that some people are born with these disorders that affect their everyday life. I'm okay with that. I also know that people will develop disorders over time given traumatic circumstances or physical harm that may come to them. I'm okay with that too. What I'm not okay with is when said people say, "Well, I was born with _________ so therefore that means I can't do *insert random activity*."

For me, nobody is truly affected by such disorders until you say that sentence. You can have all of these crazy disorders that may alter your self-confidence, affect your reading abilities, affect your social interactive skills, but the moment you say that you can't do something, is the moment you shouldn't be allowed to do that anymore. If you say you can't make friends because your disorder disables you from that, then you don't deserve friends.

There are plenty of people out there who, despite having these disorders, try to make friends anyway even if it's difficult. Some people may never be able to have friends on the same level as people without the disorder, but they at least try.

I hate hearing people blame their disabilities for everything. Do all handicapped people wheel around saying, "Woe is me, I can't walk so I'm just gonna sit around like an inanimate object and pity myself"? No, they don't. They find ways to cope with it. Example: they can play basketball and other sports. Do people with fake legs complain because they have an artificial limb? No. They are thankful they even have what limbs are attached to their body. Maybe they lost it in a shark attack, then they are just happy they are alive.

Why do people have to blame things like disorders for things that they themselves are limiting? Disorders are just as much physical as it is mental. If you think your ugly, then you may as well be even if you are the most attractive thing on the planet; it wouldn't matter, because that's how you perceive yourself.

If you want change, clear your mind first. You're never going to make friends, get good grades, etc if you keep telling yourself you can't.

Ugh. It's just super irritating...

*Insert typical female rant*

I was driving home while listening to 103.9 like I always do and a commercial came on for Lookers, which is basically a strip club/entertainment place for sleazy dirtball guys to go to - I mean, it's a place for men to go.

I have no problem with such places existing. I have no problem with girls doing that line of profession for a living, or a stepping stone to get an actual job. I have no problem with the whole "it's empowering for women to take hold and flaunt their sexuality over men". No biggie.

My problem is that I will hear that exotic dancing is an art and should be classified as such and that it's not a big deal for guys to want to watch. Let's back this up for a second. The commercial was advertising Lookers and described it as "exotic, erotic, and sometimes a little psychotic." Hasn't got your attention yet? Let's continue with the commercial. Then it goes to two guys having a conversation over the phone or in person and it goes like this:
Guy A: "what are you planning on doing tonight?"
Guy B: "ah, just staying at home and watching some TV"
Guy A: "well I'm going to be going to Lookers, you should go too."
Guy B: "Lookers?"
Guy A: "yeah, you think you want to watch TV entertainment but at Lookers you can see some real T & -"
Guy B: "okay! I'll go!"

... This is where my problem comes into play. Why do guys have to be such pigs? Really? I mean the stupid commercial advertises Lookers by spelling out the word L-O-O-K-E-R-S while the girl saying the letters basically sounds like she's having an orgasm.

I wouldn't mind these places if they actually, ya know, seemed like classy places. From the commerical, I don't get that vibe that the entertainment would actually be entertaining to anyone without man parts. It's not like the old school strip clubs where yes, girls would be wearing little costumes but they would be singing and dancing. Let's look at CHICAGO for example, a musical pretty relevant to what I'm talking about. The women in that movie were wearing skimpy outfits of lingerie and little costumes, but when I saw that movie when I was 8 and it was in theaters, I thought they were the coolest. They danced and sang and actually kept my little kid attention, not because of their T&A but because of their talent.

I'm not saying strippers and pole dancers don't have talent; you stick me near a pole and tell me to dance and I'll laugh awkwardly and not do it. I'm not confident in those aspects to dance partially naked in front of an audience, let alone raging men who think with their nether regions predominantly. Kudos to the strippers and pole dancers for confidence and the muscular ability to dance on a pole. I mean it, serious kudos for them.

But.

Why is it that in movies and the first automatic picture I get when I think "strip club" is no tops, barely there bottoms, and just them shimmying and shaking? Maybe the girls at Lookers are actual dancers and really dance, and maybe I can't judge them until I actually go to one of those places just to find out what the fascination is. I don't like looking at girls' bodies, especially if they are naked. If they are wearing a dress/outfit/bathing suit that I like, then it's more me looking because I want that *insert article of clothing*.

I don't see the hype of pole dancers/strippers/exotic dancers. I could be one of those too. But I would need to get implants first of all, otherwise I wouldn't get very many guys to oogle me. I need to actually take pole dancing lessons so I'm somewhat capable of that. And give me enough energy drinks and I'll be as confident as I possibly can be. It's not difficult. It's not something that's actually competitive; I sincerely doubt it's as hard to be a pole dancer as it is a doctor.

I wouldn't have a single problem with these establishments if all guys would just admit that they just wanna get turned on by girls so that's why they go, because they don't have a girlfriend or anyone else to turn them on and "satisfy their needs". It's when I hear that it's an art and then I hear these commercials and get disgusted for living on a planet with guys that are pigs.

Maybe it's an art. Maybe it's not. I'm not sure. All I know is that tonight when I heard this commercial it physically disgusted me and made me angry and made my inner feminist/Amazonian Queen blood boil because guys will take something that could be an art, and just make it into fast trash porn.

That I have a problem with.

It can't be that complicated

Save eachother
How hard is it to remember the name Jessica? It's a fairly common name - think about it, I bet everyone knows at least 5 Jessicas. At the very least, people know 5. I'm pretty sure I'm friends with more than 10 on Facebook, but I'm not gonna check that.

It's like forgetting people forgetting their age. When you're older, that's understandable, because at a certain point in life you stop telling people your real age and around then your memory starts to go. But seriously? My name is Jessica, not Jennifer. I don't even like the name Jennifer - I have nothing against the name, except that it is not mine and I hate being called that.

Jessica does not equal Jennifer.

On that note, why are all the good video games never centered around mainly a female protagonist? Do girls not like to play video games? Clearly, I'm in the minority on that one as well, seeing as how I think knowing and getting a person's name right is important and shows that you actually care about the person, but I digress. Most video games have the option of a girl being the protagonist, for example: Mass Effect, Saint's Row, Jade Empire (since those are the games I know off the top of my head that offer female protagonists but its not the standard choice). But rarely are their games of just girl protagonists that are actually, ya know, emulatable - which isn't even a word, but I want a character I could actually somewhat be. Since I'm not Lara Croft, I have no character I can relate to, except Daisy from Mario.

Speaking of which, right external carotid arteries located on the right side of the neck do not stretch, for those of you who are curious about that and wonder why it's not like Twizzlers, which taste disgusting.

I hate cherries.

Get Out of Here

I'm getting sick and tired of terrible drivers. No, I'm not talking about the snow birds that never seem to actually leave Florida. I'm talking about the aggressive ones that are aggressive for the sake of being jerks.

I was driving south on 41 going not only the speed limit, but also 5 mph over it, just to have some jerk tailgate me. He didn't do that for long however, because he realized I wasn't going to go over the speed limit anymore than I already had, so he decides to pass me. By passing me, I mean he narrowly avoided hitting my car, because he decided to pass me at an extremely close distance. I thought for sure he was going to clip me and take off like the jerk he is. Honestly, I'm tired of jerks on the road.

I will drive as slow or as fast as I want. Your close proximity to my car will not deter me from my speed. You want to speed up like a complete jerk and ride my ass, then go for it. I will not speed up to accommodate your 'need for speed'. Since it's mostly guys with this problem, I suggest you stop over compensating for your small aspects by trying to be big and macho. You aren't fooling anyone, except yourselves.

And then I got high..

^ random picture from the internet

One thing that I find really annoying? People who do drugs or get drunk for a good time. Do you people seriously have no other redeeming qualities about yourselves that you need a stimulant or a depressant to make you "exciting" or "interesting to be around"? I don't understand the thrill of it, and maybe it's because I haven't done either of the two, but I honestly think it's because people have nothing better to do. I'd much rather think they are just bored than believe that a majority of the world is just that boring or bland of a person that they need something to be fun.

Just put music on around me and I'll have fun. Does that make me a boring person because I don't need alcohol or weed to have a good time? No, it doesn't. So why do people do that? So they can wake up in other people's beds and giggle about it over Facebook? I really don't understand.

On the radio, there was a commercial about the fact parents can buy drug tests for their kids from the local CVS, and I just thought to myself, "I hope every parent buys one and tests their kid so they can also find out how boring and stupid their child is. Their kid is probably in middle school and is drinking already, might as well test them now so it's not a surprise later in life when they do stupid shit like drinking and driving." Harsh? Maybe.

Another thing I don't understand? The obsession with Bob Marley. Oh, you're so original and unique for liking Bob Marley - I could hardly notice the blazed expression on your face that made it obvious you smoke marijuana. You're so clever for indirectly saying you like weed, you deserve some kind of medal for your outstanding achievement in life by fooling everyone with your smarts that are slowly dying off every time you take a puff.

I can't wait till people grow up and learn to stop acting so stupid.
