A list of all the places you've lived at.
Unfortunately/Fortunately, I've only ever lived in one house, which is the one that I am at currently. I always loved living in one place, because I have all my childhood memories here, like when I would go outside and pick flowers for my mom and bring them inside, much like that scene from My Neighbor Totoro. I would get measured every year while leaning up against the hallway wall and I would compare my height with my brother's. The fact that we have the same book cases in the living room full of our old VHSs and now our DVDs, the very same bookcases that I would climb up in order to get a movie. Now I can stand and reach the very top that my little body once couldn't reach without working for it. I have all the same furniture as when I was younger, the same scribbles and old phone numbers with TV products that I wanted written in crayon.
I have all these little remnants around the house, but as the years have gone by, things have changed. That wall with Bart & I's height has been painted over, so you can't even see the markings anymore. The kitchen table that I used to doodle on has been painted. The entire kitchen is different than how it used to be, so now nothing in it is original anymore, not even the faucets in the sink. Our floor is now wood-tiled, instead of carpeted, which is truly devastating. I used to lay my baby blanket down in front of the TV in the living room and watch movies over and over again as my dad slept on the couch. That was our father-daughter time and after watching the same VHS three times over, I would fall asleep on the floor. I loved sleeping on the floor; I preferred that over my bed. My room isn't baby pink anymore, nor is it adorned with Minnie Mouse wallpaper, which I actually miss. I love my sky blue room, but it's just another change among many.
I always kind of wished I got to live in other houses, but then I realized that I'm blessed to have been able to be in one house for my 19, almost 20, years of life. I hope to be able to provide that for my family too, so that they can have amazing memories as well ♥

Awww, Jessica this was lovely. Houses impact us more than we realize. After all, we make them our homes. I have memories of my homes, but yours are special :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks :D It never really struck me how much my home changed until a few weeks ago when dad replaced the leaky sink faucet that had been there since I was born. I grieved for a day because of it, which is silly in the grand scheme of things to be sad about, but like you said, my home impacted me and the way my silly brain thinks.
